🌍 About iGeo

The International Geography Olympiad is the world's premier academic competition for secondary school students. It is held under the auspices of the International Geographical Union (IGU) and organized by the IGU Olympiad Commission.

🏛️ Venue

Istanbul turns the city itself into a classroom. The event will be hosted at a premier venue with state-of-the-art facilities for tests and accommodation.

Competition Components

📝 Written Response Test (WRT)

40% weighting • Analytical questions covering physical, human, and regional geography.

🗺️ Multimedia Test (MMT)

20% weighting • Map interpretation, graphs, photos, and data analysis.

🔬 Fieldwork Exercise (FWE)

40% weighting • Real-world data collection and analysis at Istanbul sites.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible?

Participants must be secondary school students (typically ages 16-19). Each country may send a team of up to 4 students plus 2 team leaders.

How do we register?

Registration is processed through the Olympus system. National coordinators should check the official iGeo website for portal access.

Where will it take place?

The event will be held at a dedicated venue in Istanbul, which will serve as both the accommodation and examination center.
